Local masses of quartzite, metagraywacke, iron-formation, and other metasedimentary rocks and amphibolite and felsic gneiss thought to be volcanic; metasedimentary rocks in Beartooth Mountains contain detrital zircon dated at more than 3, Ma. The Natrona County Road and Bridge Department is responsible for maintaining bridges and roadways. In addition to maintenance functions, the department provides emergency responses for natural disasters, search and rescue, and wild land fire suppression.
